Get More in Sacramento
Lately I’ve had several clients who have turned their attention to Sacramento. It’s not hard to see why. Our state’s capital is an attractive alternative to the Bay Area, especially now that more people can work remotely. Sacramento is as little as 80 minutes’ drive away from San Francisco, and is in a significant growth cycle right now. So why should you consider Sacramento? Here’s how you can get more there.
More for Your Money
The average house price in Sacramento is $367,000, or $254/sq ft. Of course that’s for the entire city, but even if you look at some of the more desirable areas, like East Sacramento ($719K, $475/sq ft), Land Park ($860K, $484/sq ft), and Arden-Arcade ($393K, $268/sq ft), they still come in a far cry cheaper than San Francisco.
More Sunshine
Sacramento is one of the sunniest cities in the country, with an annual average of 3,607 hours of sunlight. Yes, it gets hot in the summer, but delta breezes normally cool things off in the evening, making for pleasant nights.
More GREEN
Known as the City of Trees, Sacramento is the third greenest city in the world with respect to tree coverage, with 23.6% canopy coverage. Land Park has an impressive 33% canopy coverage.
More Activity
Sacramento is riddled with trails, parks, and other outdoor activities. The American River Bike Trail (aka the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail) runs 28 miles from downtown east to Folsom, for example. In the rivers or in nearby areas in the delta, you can drop a kayak and get up close and personal with nature. Or, if you’re looking for something less strenuous, rent a pontoon on the American River.
MORE BREWING
Sacramento has long been a center for craft beer and coffee, with more than 50 regional breweries and dozens of craft roasters throughout the city and in the area. Grab the Sacramento Beer Frontier Beer Passport to take your palate on a journey.
MORE WINE
Think you’ll miss Wine Country? Think again. Did you know there’s a burgeoning wine country just 20 minutes south of Sacramento? Clarksburg, right on the delta, is renowned for producing crisp Chenin Blanc. Other well-regarded wine regions, like Lodi, Amador County, Gold Country, and more, are within easy reach as well.
MORE FOOD
Being in the heart of farm country, Sacramento has access to some of the best produce and protein anywhere. From the bustling farmers markets to a vibrant dining scene showcasing the best of the region’s produce, Sacramento earns its title as the Farm-to-Fork Capital.
MORE MCM
Fans of Mid-Century Modern architecture are in for a treat. MCM homes abound in neighborhoods like Carmichael, Pocket-Greenhaven, and South Land Park, where you can find modern ranch homes from Eichler and local builders Streng Brothers. There’s even a proposed Eichler Historic District in South Land Park (though, ironically, he never built homes on Eichler Way there). To furnish your Modernist home, check out Scout Living, Mid Century Sacramento, and the monthly Sacramento Antique Faire.
